Assign a Foreman
Foremen play an important role in Breadcrumb: they check in their crews each day and complete safety forms and permits in the Breadcrumb app. To access these capabilities, a worker must first be assigned the Foreman role in Breadcrumb.
Who can do this? The GC Site Team or Admin team (technically called 'Site Hosts' in Breadcrumb)
Where can you do this? You can assign a foreman in the web portal or the mobile app. Find instructions for both below.
Before You Start
-
Make sure the person you want to make a foreman has checked in on this site under that subcontractor company at least once. If they haven't, they won't exist in the system. This is the cause of most foreman assignment issues.
Tip: ask them to scan the site QR and check in once if they don’t appear..
Assigning a Foreman in the Web Portal
- Navigate to your site in Breadcrumb.
- Select the Companies tab.
- Scroll to the company you want to update.
- When you scroll over the Foremen column, you'll see a pencil icon appear.
- When you click the pencil icon, a dropdown menu will appear. You can select the foreman from that list.
- Remember, if you don't see the user's name in this list, it's likely because they have never checked into the site. Have them scan the QR code and sign in, then they'll appear in this list.
- Select Update.
- That user is now assigned as a Foreman and will have the ability to manage their crew, check them in every day, and access forms and permits.
Assigning a Foreman in the Mobile App
- Navigate to the Host page in the mobile app.
- Make sure you are on the site you want to assign a foreman at.
- Tap the Suppliers tile.
- Select the Subcontractor Company (Supplier) the foreman works for from the list
- Tap Manage Site Supplier Foremen
- Search their name and select them from the dropdown list
- Tap Add Foreman button.
Troubleshooting
-
“I can’t find the user in the list.” Make sure they have checked in on this site under their Subcontractor's company (called Supplier in the app). Confirm their mobile number matches their profile.
-
“We need multiple foremen for the same supplier.” Supported—use multi-select in Allocate foreman.
-
“Removal didn’t stick.” Refresh the supplier page; confirm the user’s supplier assignment hasn’t changed and re-save.
-
Make sure the foreman’s subcontractor company has already been added to the site in Breadcrumb. If it hasn’t, the worker won’t be able to check in under that company and therefore can’t be assigned as its foreman. Reach out to your admin if you're not seeing the company under your site in Breadcrumb.
What Foremen Can Do (on that Site, for their Supplier)
-
Check in/out workers from their own supplier (batch or individual).
-
Submit permits & generic forms (e.g., PTP/JHA) and add their supplier’s workers to those submissions.
-
Privacy/Scope: Foremen only see workers and documents for their own supplier on that site.
Note: If a user’s supplier changes in the User Directory or the user is removed from the supplier, their foreman assignment for this site is automatically cleared.
