Approve a Permit Application

New permit applications are submitted with a Pending status until a Site Host reviews them. After approval, the permit status changes based on your site's configuration, typically to Open or On Hold.

What this means

  • Pending = waiting for host review

  • Approved = allowed to proceed (status becomes Open or On Hold based on setup)

When you’ll use this

  • Before high-risk work starts (hot work, ground disturbance, confined space, etc.)

  • When a new permit is submitted for a new day/shift

Step-by-step

    What happens after approval

    • The permit status updates to Open or On Hold (depending on configuration)

    • It disappears from the Pending approvals list

    Common Issues

I can’t see the permit in Approvals

    What to check

    • You may be viewing the wrong site context, or you don’t have approval permissions

    What to do

    • Confirm you’re in the right site and that your role includes Approve/Reject permissions

    What does Reject do?

    What to check

    • Reject ends that permit submission (it won’t stay pending)

    What to do

    • The subcontractor/worker must submit a new permit

How do I close the permit later?

    What to check

    • Closing is typically done in the mobile app (often there’s no Close button on web)

    What to do

    • Complete the close-out in the mobile app on-site if required

    Need help?

If you’re unsure whether to approve (or what conditions to require), contact your foreman or GC site team to confirm the permit rules for that jobsite.
